Job description

True Food Community Co-operative is a well-established retailer of affordable organic, ethical, and zero waste food and household products to the people of Reading and the surrounding area.Our organic supermarket opened in Emmer Green, north Reading in 2010; this has been our base ever since.

We employ five staff who work alongside our volunteer members.You would be one of three shop managers taking responsibility for managing the shop.Our staff team is small and requires cross-functional working between the roles, therefore there would be a requirement to undertake other tasks related to the effective running of the business.

This role is 19 hours per week, comprising three shifts which are currently Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons.

There is a generous discount for your personal purchases in the shop, 28 days holiday per annum (pro rata) and an occupational pension scheme.The salary is currently £13.74 per hour and is reviewed annually.Staff training is provided.

These are the key responsibilities:

Shop management

Undertake shifts as Shop Manager with associated responsibilities for:

  • Customer care, providing an excellent shopping experience
  • Promoting the value of organic and ethically sourced products and True Food membership
  • Maintaining food hygiene, general cleanliness, and health and safety within the shop
  • Ensuring that the shop is adequately stocked
  • Receiving minor deliveries
  • Some supplier relationships and ordering products
  • Closing the premises (until 7pm), and if working the morning shift – opening from 8am
  • Using the EPOS system
  • Oversight, training and support of members and others
